Happy Last Week of the 2018 School Year!  Can you believe it?  I am amazed at how quickly this 1st semester has gone.  When we return in January, we have 1 week and then we will start a new semester!  All the middle school teachers expect any missing or late assignments must be turned in by Friday of this week. We have our last Advent Prayer service in the church on Monday morning.  Feel free to join us if you can, we start right at 8:30.    The 7th graders will be shopping at the 8th graders' Santa's Workshop.  Hopefully they will find some good gifts to bring home to put under the tree.  The student council is also selling candy canes this week and the money will be added to the red bucket donations we collected last week.  (Over $250 was collected!!!) We have mass on Wednesday at 8:45!  Fr. Randy has returned and he looks like he is doing great!  I am so happy for him and his quick healing! The students have a dress re...

Dear Parents, We had another great Craft Day!  Huge shout out to Tiffany Leck and all her little elves who helped to provide the excellent grade leveled crafts.  THANK YOU!!! We have our weekly Advent Prayer service on Monday morning.  It will be held in the church.  Feel free to join us, if you are able.  It starts around 8:30. We have a prayer service on Wednesday from 9:30-9:45 in the chapel.  It is a good opportunity for the kids to gather as a smaller group for a more intimate time of prayer. The science fair project parent signature is due on Thursday.  This is the first due date for the whole project.  Take care, Kim

Dear Parents, It's here, It's here, It's here.... finally, December has arrived!  I was so happy to start Advent this morning at church and hearing Deacon David's homily was really good.  Sounds like Fr. Randy is doing well and will use one more week of time to continue his healing.  Fr. Allam has been doing a good job in the absence of Fr. Randy.  We are so thankful for all of their leadership. This week: Monday: We have our first Advent Prayer gathering at 8:30 in the church.  Everyone is welcome to join us! The 6th - 8th grade will have Reconciliation in the church from 12:40-1:30.  All Catholic students will participate and those non-Catholics who would like a special blessing pray are welcome to come forward, as well. Wednesday:  We have mass at 8:45.  Thursday:  The long awaited Science Fair packets will be handed out to the 7th and 8th graders during science class.  The students have until December 13th to turn in the par...

Dear Parents, What a fantastic Thanksgiving break!  It was just what the doctor ordered... lots of family time, yummy food and a little extra sleep!  I hope your break was just as refreshing!  Now for the trees to go up, the Christmas songs to be sung and presents to be purchased! I am sure that you've heard Bishop Morlino passed away on Saturday evening.  He suffered a heart attack on Wednesday afternoon and never recovered.  We pray for the repose of his soul. This week is a normal schedule, so we best enjoy it before the craziness of the Christmas excitement begins.  We have mass on Wednesday.  Feel free to join us if you can!  We would love to see you there! Next Friday, December 7th is craft day.  I know they are still looking for volunteers to help with the projects.  Please check with Tiffany Leck if you have the opportunity to help.  The kids sure enjoy the afternoon.  I've seen pictures in the past couple days ...

November 20

Dear Parents, It is just a simple update this week, as we only have 2 days of school before we are out for break.  The genetic projects were all turned in and they are great!!  I will hopefully have them hanging in the hall so you can check them out if you come of Tuesday for lunch. Tuesday is a day to be thankful for those at and involved in any way in our school.  I am beyond grateful for your support and kindness over the last 20+ years!  I hope to see you on Tuesday.  Be here around 11:30 and join your child to enjoy a HUGE feast.  There is an assembly in the afternoon after we eat.  Have a very blessed, memory filled Thanksgiving! Many blessings, Kim

Dear Parents, S-N-O-W!  Can you believe we have already seen the first of the season?  Crazy, but I will admit it was beautiful to look out and see it! The coming week is going to be a bit crazy, so hold on and let's get it started! Monday and Tuesday are normal schedules and regular work loads. Wednesday, we have prayer with the 8th graders from 9:30-9:45.  Fr. Randy shared some of the paintings in the sacristy a couple weeks ago, so I am anxious to see what he has planned for us this time.  Speaking of Fr. Randy, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.  He will have hip replacement surgery on Friday, November 16th.  We wish him all the best of luck and a fast recover! Thursday afternoon is Prize Fest.  Congratulations go out to all those who helped support our school by selling magazines, etc...  We are blessed with such an incredible turnout!  Thank you for the efforts!  **The 7th graders genetics project and self asse...

November 5, 2018

Dear Parents, We survived a crazy week filled with fun memories (Halloween) and Holy Day celebration (All Saints' Day mass) all in one piece.  They handled the changing of schedules for a various reasons, better than I did, I think! 😆 The 7th graders got their new science project this past week.  They are hard at work on building their "families" based upon a variety of genetic characteristics.  We have leaves, scarves,  candy corn and many more different creative family types.  Can't wait to see the final products of their hard work. I think the coming week will be a little more calm, or at least I hope so!  😉 As always, if you have questions or concerns, never hesitate to reach out. Take care, Kim

Dear Parents, It was great to see so many at conferences!  Thank you!!  I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. This week is a little crazy, so hold on and let's get it started!  🙂 Wednesday, the students may wear their costumes, but there are few things to think about.  We will have our regular prayer with Fr. Randy at 9:30.   Students will not be able to apply makeup or hair dye at school.  If the costume isn't comfortable to wear all day, students can change mid-day if that would make things easier.  We will be wondering around in a parade around 2:30 throughout the school.  Happy Halloween!  👻 Thursday is All Saints Day and we will gather as a school at 8:45 for mass.  Please feel free to join us if you are able.  Please have your child dress in nice clothing. The 7th graders will be assigned their next science project on Tuesday.  It is based upon genetics and will have a fall/Thanksgiving theme.  ...

October 22, 2018

Dear Parents, I hope you had a chance to view the cell reproduction videos.  We had fun watching them and even had some pretty good giggles!  :) We started talking about genetics this week.  The kids are in the process of learning about how and why they are made the way they are.  It is rather entertaining watching their "light bulbs" pop on when they figure out some of his/her looks.  We will complete a spongebob activity and some halloween coloring sheets to help solidify their understanding.  The next project (which is individually completed) will be assigned on November 5th and have a fall/Thanksgiving theme. Conferences are "scheduled" (we don't really schedule for middle school) for next Wednesday and Thursday.  PLEASE be sure your child joins you for the conference.  It is so important for the student to hear about areas of improvements that need to be made, but even more importantly positive points about his/her current status. ...

Cell Reproduction performances 10/16/18

The 7th graders turned in their projects today.  There was one group (HUGE SHOUT OUT TO Yari, Rowen, Rose, Jamison M. and Amelia) who performed live (which they did a great job) but the others all have theirs recorded and I am sharing them here. Da'Jianna, Lulieth, Chloe and Jayley Olivia, Aster, Wubbie and Katelyn T. Kyle, Eli, Hunter and Eli Charlie and Coltan Jack and Jameson S.  (there is no picture only sound) Alex W., Miles and Josh Rylan, Julian and Gavin Katelyn O, Megan and Alexis

October 15, 2018

Dear Parents, The science "cell reproduction" performances are due at the end of class on Monday.  I am really looking forward to seeing what they accomplished!  Their self assessments are also due that day. The building is really cold right now because the boilers are not on yet.  I would recommend students bring an extra sweatshirt to leave in his/her locker for emergencies. We will be participating in the Living Rosary on Wednesday.  Mrs. Brochtrup and Mrs. Boerke lead us through this each year during the month of October.  We are grateful for the new environment in the church to help us celebrate this special time. 7th grade articles are due no later than 3:15 on Wednesday.  I will not be accepting these late, so you might want to mention this to your child as it will make a pretty big mark in his/her quarter grade. Genetics is our next topic of study.  We are very basic in our study, but the students do begin to understand why they look ...

October 8, 2018

Dear Parents, The creative juices are flowing with this group!  I love the cleverness of their ideas for this cell reproduction project!  I will share them with you when they are complete.  The videos are due on October 15th (along with the self assessment and their notebooks). We have church on Wednesday.  Things are getting cold around here, so make sure your child has a sweatshirt or a jacket they can put on in case they get cold. Picture retake is Thursday. Have a great weekend!  Ms. Maxson

October 1, 2018

Dear Parents, As we get closer and closer to the end of the quarter, more and more projects... will be due.  Please help me to help the kids to stay focused and on track.  We had a great Thursday and Friday during work time, but that was after a VERY ROUGH Wednesday study hall.  I am so glad they realized what an opportunity he/she was giving up by not using their time. We will start our next science project this week.  It is one of my absolute favorite 7th grade projects.  They learn about cell reproduction but must develop a way to perform it for the class.  They are able to work in groups for this project.  I LOVE the creativity that comes out during this time.  It will be due on October 15th at the end of class. If your child wants to take advantage of the early due date for articles, it is this week.  7th graders' articles must be in by October 3rd for that opportunity.  The real due date is October 17th.  Have a wonder...

September 24, 2018

Dear Parents, The cell projects have been turned in and I will have them graded by Monday.  The kids did a nice job!  I have attached their pictures below! We have mass on Wednesday.  We start our next science unit this week.  They will learn about the cell reproduction process.  The next project begin next week.  If students are working on his/her articles, the early due date is next week. Have a great week! Kim

September 17, 2018

Dear Parents, Yet another beautiful weekend!  I heard there might be rain by the end of the week, so get out and enjoy it while you can. The cell projects are due on Thursday at the beginning class.  They must turn in their hard copy of the cell and the key; they almost must turn in the connections and self assessment via google classroom.  So far, the projects I have seen are really good. I hope everyone has a great week!!! Take care and many blessings, Kim

September 10, 2018

Dear Parents, I am so thankful that the heat of last week seems to be in the past!  Waking up with the windows open and  feeling the cool breeze was awesome! This week: Monday and Tuesday, the 7th and 8th graders head north to Camp Gray.  I will head up (driving) on Monday with them and stay until after lunch.  Ms. Pitz is driving up after school and staying over and coming back on Tuesday.  Mr. Pothof, Mr. Beisser and Mr. Schmidt are staying over as well.  Don't forget to sell those magazines, etc...  The first collection is Tuesday (Monday for 7th/8th graders) and next week is the final.  The kids are excited about possibly seeing Mr. Beisser up on the roof! Don't forget we are in the midst of cell projects!  Please ask your child how it is going... First full week is almost on its way! Blessings, Kim

September 4, 2018

Dear Parents, It was a great first week back at school!  I know that I keep saying that I can't believe these kids are in my homeroom, but I am still amazed that time flown by this fast.  They were the little ones in the cafeteria, when I would walk by at lunch, and shout "IT'S SCIENCE DAY!" and now it's science day every day!  :)  I loved their enthusiasm then and am truly driven by it now. The rain just keeps coming down.  I hope that your family has not seen damage to your home due to the excess water.  I hope we get some dry days very soon! This week this kids start, in earnest, on the first project in science for the year.  They are each to build a plant or animal cell.  Each project should make a connection to a topic (sports, food, a building, etc..) and be created via that connection.  I am so anxious to see the creativity of this group.  The project and all its parts are due on September 20th. There are several students ...
